Have you ever received a story through email that you suspected wasn't true?

If you own an email account, then chances are you have.  Some of the urban legends that spread through the internet sound believable though, don't they?  A baby in Texas is suffering from a terrible disease that has medical professionals baffled.  A poor lady in New York is almost kidnapped by a man who flattened her tires in a mall parking lot.  An unsuspecting man is drugged so that his kidneys can be illegally harvested.  The stream of myths is virtually endless.

How about 'Revival Myths?'  Have you encountered urban legends within the church that pertain to revival?  Are there ideals that sound true enough, but lead to inaction among God's people?

We'd like to think not, but consider the following statements.  Have you ever found merit in these oft-repeated ideas?

1. We can't talk about revival to a congregation that struggles with in-fighting.  They're just not ready for it.

This absurd statement is like telling someone who is sick there's no use seeking treatment, since they're already ill!  When we understand what revival really is, we'll see that God actually has a special message for those churches who grapple with conflict in the congregation.  And waiting until the conflict somehow passes is never the answer.

2. Revival means we simply wake up and start sharing the Gospel more.

This suggestion has successfully made thousands of Christians feel guilty about the 'lack of revival' in their lives.  Does Christ want us to share the Gospel?  Of course!  Is that all there is to a life of revival?  Certainly not.  Once again, a true understanding of revival leads us to the knowledge that sharing and outreach, in its many forms, is not just a prerequisite to revival; rather it is a tool of revival and an indicator that our hearts are alive in the Spirit.  This vital component of revival is explored further in our Revival Power Seminar.

3. Revival means elimination of conflicts within the church.

Wouldn't it be nice if that were true!  A study of Acts, however, shows this isn't the case.  What's the difference then?  Essentially, a revived church reacts to conflicts differently.  They work through differences that arise, with a Spirit of love that can only come when self is truly surrendered.  And, the frequency of conflict is greatly reduced, when church members are busy working for the Lord.

Would you like to explore these and other revival myths further, and discover the beautiful reality that God offers instead?  Why not consider a Revival Power Seminar for your church?  You can see a general outline   of our six meeting series, offered by Revival Power Ministries.
